Actress Rebekah Kennedy, a 2006 graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University, attended a red carpet premiere this week for the new motion picture Season of the Witch which opens nationwide on Friday.
Kennedy, 26, who grew up near Dallas, Texas, plays a peasant girl in the film, which stars Nicholas Cage, Ron Perlman and Claire Foy. Later this year, audiences will see her in the leading role in an upcoming feature film, Book of Babylon.
Kennedy majored in musical theatre and minored in dance at PBA. During her college years, she performed in various stage roles, including Anybodys in the University's production of West Side Story, Jennie Mae Layman in The Diviners, Nursie in Camino Real, Ralph in Kiss me Kate and the Little Boy in Me and My Girl. She earned an Irene Ryan nomination for her role in The Diviners.
According to Kennedy's website, she portrayed Jessie Oakley in a production of Annie Get your Gun in her hometown during one of her summer breaks from college. She also spent a summer in New Hampshire where she performed in six musicals in six weeks. Later, she was chosen to participate in NYU's CAP 21 Musical Theatre Program in New York. Daniel Gordon, professor of theatre at PBA, recalls Kennedy as an exceptional student. She was always focused, Gordon said. She learned this craft on the boards. All the best actors working in the industry today learned their craft on the stage. After graduation, she returned to Texas, where she continued to train and audition. She also taught musical theatre to children.
Other upcoming films in which Kennedy is slated to appear include the comedy Wuss and thriller House Hunting.
